And all at once the burning brightness of the vigilant sun was gone. My eyes lifted, widened. In the clan's legends, eclipses were forerunners of great events: the first blood of a war, the birth of a city, the death of a seer. What, then, did standing in the greater shadow of a dragon's wings mean? The sands leapt up as flame, golden and blinding. My cries were lost under the voice of the dragon. True darkness enfolded me and carried me away. |
